An Tóstal Festival makes a triumphant return to it’s historic home in Salthill
In 2011, after a wait of over 50 years, the “An Tóstal” festival made a triumphant return to its historic home in Salthill.
In 2012, the festival will again showcase the very best of Irish coastal traditions and customs through All-Ireland Currach Racing along the promenade of Salthill with the majestic Galway Hookers racing in the background on their native home of Galway Bay.

On Sunday the 6th of May 2012, the An Tóstal festival will again showcase the very best of Irish coastal traditions and customs through All-Ireland Currach Racing along the promenade of Salthill with the majestic Galway Hookers racing in the background on their native home of Galway Bay.
2012 Highlights will include:
- Currach racing with teams from Donegal, Mayo, the Aran Islands, Connemara, Clare, Limerick and Kerry, participating and competing in the All Ireland Currach Racing. The start and finishing line will be in front of Ladies Beach in Salthill and they will race along the promenade.
- Galway Hookers and different classes of traditional sailing vessels will be racing on Galway Bay for all to see.
- Live commentary of the races with Traditional Irish music for entertainment.
- Sandcastle competition for children on Ladies Beach.
- A Tug O’War Competition between the local teams of Connemara on Ladies Beach.
- The festivities continue into the night with entertainment in the village of Salthill.
With estimated crowds of almost 10,000 people over the two days in 2011, it promises to be even more exciting and spectacular in 2012.
Exact timetable of the races and the day’s festivities will be posted on the festival website by the end of February 2012.
